Sharna’s Birthday Gift Delivers Picture Perfect Saturn

A Clear Night And A Hundred Billion Stars To Contemplate

Sharna and Luke from inner Melbourne spent an evening under the stars and by the beach to help celebrate Sharna’s wish for a telescope observing evening of the universe. And the stars aligned! Clear skies and absolutely still night time conditions prevailed providing some excellent views of the Southern Sky’s wondrous beauties.

After several hours of viewing, Sharna’s pick of the picks was 47 Tucanae – a spectacular and famous globular cluster situated in the deep southern sky. Planet Saturn whose ring system is currently almost edge-on – which is rare to see, was also a favourite. Luke loved the colourful Jewel Box star cluster … along with a crisp and bright Saturn high in the sky. A lengthy list of objects was observed, providing our guests with some insights into what diversity is “up there”, unlikely to have been previously imagined. The variety and configurations of stars and nebulae are a constant source of amazement to tour participants. Surprising and all good fun!
