From Four Light Years To Twelve Million Light Years – In One Evening!

Craig’s Birthday Present From Jess Is The Best

Ringed and glorious Saturn joined later in the night by master and giant of the Solar System Jupiter, were two of the wonderful sights Craig enjoyed on his birthday.  But nearest observing target was Alpha Centauri: not a star but three stars in one – a triple star. We explored star forming regions, faraway galaxies, magnificent globular clusters including the best example visible from planet Earth and a wide-view into the heart of one of our close neighbouring galaxies, the Large Magellanic Cloud.

 

Craig and Jess thoroughly enjoyed a lengthy tour across the universe together with an overview of what we actually are seeing when we look up into the heavens on a clear starry night. Honeysuckles skies are dark and it is a luxury for Melbournians to spend a night or two under them with us by the beach. It is the best of both worlds. Jess is vegan and Craig cooked up a spectacular feast for her on our wood brick bbq before the tour. It was a fabulous night enjoyed by all.
