A Family Get Together Unlike Any Other

Mum And Dad, Son And Daughter … Spouses Left At Home!

This was a true family catch up – one they had not done like this for many years: not since they were kids. One brother was missing – unfortunately interstate. It was Stuart’s birthday and sister Bianca had bought him an astronomy tour with Honeysuckles Astronomy Tours. Who better to invite along too, than mum and dad as it was dad John who had always stirred Stuart’s interest in the stars.

Upon arrival the family took in the beach on a long walk delighted at being virtually the only souls on the beach for the duration of their walk. Then it was back to base for a drink and early dinner preparation. As soon at darkness fell we commenced the tour, sighting setting Venus and Mars low in the west.

We like to commence tours with individual stars (not always as they seem to the naked eye!) before moving on to more complex objects. The sky was clear all night and a wide range of spectacular objects were seen wowing all family members. Apart from a small basic telescope most have seen through as kids, our telescope observing evening was their next proper experience looking deep into space. We enjoy introducing our guests to the wonders of the cosmos. The cosmos rarely disappoints …

 

“We had an amazing overnight stay with Bruce. I knew the stargazing would be great, but it far exceeded my expectations. The skies cleared at exactly the right time and we saw and learned so much. I was in awe that we were able to see objects millions of light years away. Bruce is friendly, easy to talk to and so knowledgeable about space. Overall, a wonderful host (with his lovely dog Roughy). He whips up a mean omelet in the morning which is exactly what you feel like after a long walk on the beach. The beach house is cosy and so close to the beach, I wish we could have stayed longer. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who has even an inkling of interest in the night skies.
